What does an accounting firm cost?
The honest answer: it depends — but the industry does its best to stop you comparing. Here's a transparent breakdown of what accounting actually costs and what drives the price.
Three price models
- Hourly rate — usually 600–1 100 kr/hour. The problem: you never know what the month will cost, and the firm earns more the longer it takes.
- Fixed monthly price — a predictable amount covering a defined scope. Our model, because surprise-free invoices are half the point of handing over your finances.
- Per-item pricing — per voucher or payslip. Looks cheap, gets hard to track.
Rough price levels for small businesses
Always ask: are year-end accounts and the annual report included in the monthly price — or does a lump sum arrive in March?
What drives the price
Number of transactions, company form, employees, VAT complexity (EU trade? mixed operations?) and — honestly — how tidy your records are. A receipt photographed the same week is cheaper to process than a shoebox in March.
Questions to ask before choosing an accounting firm
- Are the year-end accounts included in the monthly price — or does a lump sum arrive in March?
- Who actually handles my bookkeeping — and does that person change?
- What does it cost to ask a question? (At some firms: hourly rate. At ours: nothing.)
- What happens to my data if I want to switch firms?
What does it cost not to hire anyone?
Your own time (count hours × your hourly value), missed deductions, late-filing fees — and decisions made without checking the numbers. For most business owners with more than a handful of transactions a month, professional accounting is cheaper than DIY, once everything is counted.
